NSFW/SVILOVA launches our fall public exhibition program with Gothenburg-based visual artist Pia Mauno.

In her pictorial practice, she combines everyday objects, anatomic shapes, artistic materials and textile handicrafts into paintings and collage hybrids. Her work explores psychological and social issues, profoundly inspired by art historical movements, such as surrealism, and different textile traditions. Through that lens, she moves with ease between painting and sculptures/objects.

The exhibition is a public art project in poster format displayed on 31 public billboards around Gothenburg, and will run August to September, 2021 or until we run out of posters!

Pia Mauno (b. 1969 in Västerås) lives and works in Gothenburg. She is graduated from Valand Academy of Fine Arts (1996-2001) and is the founder of the platform Tailor as Rebel where a group of artists, writers, and curators joined by their interest in textile, discuss and theorize about the heritage and importance of this creative and cultural field.

Selected exhibitions include CFHILL Annual, Stockholm with Norberg/Sunden, Isak Hall, and Ester Eriksson; Väva.Fläat.Fästa, Textile pioneers and contemporary expressions at Västerås Art museum; Through The Things We See, Gothenburg Konsthall; Greetings from another realities, Hammarkullen konsthall, Gothenburg; Nordic delight, Institut Suédoise, Paris and Housing Work with Laure Prouvost, Hit Gallery, Gothenburg.

Mauno is currently working on a 25-meter ceramic painting on a brick wall in Stockholm as part of a public art project and will curate the exhibition Skruvstädet i tiden och andra berättelser at Mölnlycke Kulturhus in October–November2021.
